Medium-Pile Area Rugs
The height of a floor rug's weave determines the categorisation – low-pile rugs have short loops of no more than half a centimetre. High or deep pile rugs such as shaggy rugs can have fibres as long as one to one and a half centimetres or more. Therefore, a medium-pile floor rug sits comfortably between the extremes with a loop length of around half a centimetre to three-quarters of a centimetre.
It may not seem like much of a difference, but the pile height of a floor rug can have a remarkably big difference to the look and feel of an interior space. Medium-pile floor rugs are a good compromise for homes with allergy sufferers who want thicker floor coverings without the irritation that high-pile rugs can cause. Medium pile rugs are softer than low-pile area rugs and easier to vacuum than a high-pile as they shed less. Best placed in lower traffic areas of the home like bedrooms, medium pile rugs look great when layered across low-pile carpets or different coloured floor rugs.
